But before you book your consultation with our team, you will probably have some questions about dental implants in Chelsea. Here, we answer common FAQs that we get about this procedure, so read on!

What are oral implants?

In short, dental implants in Chelsea are false tooth roots that are attached to your jaw. Made from titanium, once in place, they fuse with the surrounding bone, and act as a secure anchor point for the prosthetic teeth to be placed on top of.

They require a stable and sturdy jawbone to be correctly fitted, so we will check for this during your initial visit to our team.

Does it hurt to have them fitted?

In short, no.

We will always ensure that your jaw and gums are numbed before we fit your implants.

Once at home and the numbing agent wears off, you may experience a sensation that feels similar to a dental extraction; this is normal. We recommend taking paracetamol to relieve this; avoid ibuprofen or aspirin, as these can thin the blood and delay the healing time. If your discomfort is persistent or is worsening, come back and see our team.

How long will my new smile last?

With correct aftercare and maintenance, such as attending biannual check-ups every 6 months, your oral implants should last up to 15 years. Making them a great investment in your smile!

What can cause them to fail?

The main reason implants fail is due to gum disease, so regular check-ups with our team are important for long-lasting implants.

Other factors such as smoking or excessive drinking can also cause the gums to recede, and have been linked to premature failing of oral implants.

Can anyone have them fitted?

Most people are suitable for having oral implants fitted.

However, our team will need to conduct an assessment of your mouth before we can fit them, which will include X-rays to ensure that you have enough jawbone to support the implant(s). We will also check for signs of gum disease and other oral health issues, and will aim to resolve them before fitting oral implants.
