If you are new to the world of adult orthodontics, there are definitely a few things to learn!

And if you are considering having a brace or aligner fitted in your adult years, then you probably have a few questions too.

While it is easy to assume that all adult-aimed braces and orthodontics are the same, there are differences between the ways the appliances are fitted and used by our team; for instance, a lingual brace and a standard brace are different, even though they are both fitted and metal!

At Chelsea and Fulham Dentist, we are proud of the range of orthodontic treatments that we can offer our patients, including the famous Invisalign in Chelsea. Removable, lifestyle-friendly and discreet, this aligner is a particular favourite among our adult and teenage patients and, should you be suitable for it, you will quickly discover why! Great!

But what are some of the other things to consider before beginning treatment with Invisalign in Chelsea? Read on to find out!

It isn’t pain-free!

OK, so Invisalign in Chelsea is a removable aligner that doesn’t require tightening to move your teeth.

But that doesn’t mean it is entirely comfortable! Remember, it still has the mission of moving your teeth and when you have switched aligners, there is likely to be some pressure as your teeth are moved. To manage this sensation, we recommend pain-relief such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.

It requires dedication

All adult orthodontics require dedication, but as this aligner is removable and needs to be worn for up to 22 hours per day, you need to be strict with yourself!

Keep track of how long you take it out for and be sure to put it back in after you have finished eating; failure to do so can cause your teeth to relapse into their former positions or may even cause your treatment to take a step backwards.

If you aren’t sure that you are disciplined enough to handle a removable aligner, then talk to our team about fitted options.

It can take a while

The standard treatment time for this invisible aligner is between 3-6 months.

While fast, that is only the case if you have a mild misalignment. Should you have a more complex or moderate misalignment, then it can take longer for it to be corrected using this aligner.

For a more accurate breakdown of how long invisible aligners can take, talk to our team.

It doesn’t work for everyone

While we wish we could give this aligner to everyone, it isn’t always suited to every patient’s orthodontic needs.

If you have a complex misalignment, or you have teeth that require rotating, then we may advise that you wear a clear brace in lieu of an invisible option. They are still discreet, so don’t worry!

The results can be striking!

Despite what you may have read online, results following an invisible aligner can be just as striking and as permanent as those achieved with any metal orthodontic tool. So go on, what are you waiting for?
